At our farm, we hatch several hundred chicks per year. We personally use these tiny, thick elastic bands on a regular basis to identify chicks from different breeders...they are quick and easy for one person to apply and remove. NO tools needed! We breed standard & heavy breed chicks & guineas, which use size 4 at day old. Please note that heavily feather-legged breeds such as Silkies use size 5 at day old. After approx 2-3 wks, change to the next size up.  

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE BANDS WORK EXCELLENT FOR BABY AND GROWING POULTRY /BIRDS. THEY ARE NOT INTENDED FOR PERMANENT IDENTIFICATION ON ADULT BIRDS. MANY OF OUR CUSTOMERS USE THEM ON ADULT QUAIL, BUT I CAN'T GUARANTEE HOW LONG THEY WILL LAST, AS IT DEPENDS ON ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER FACTORS 

 Be aware that ANY/ALL leg bands are not necessarily harmless and that they can pose a health risk--the band can potentially become entrapped in the enclosure's wire or accessories, contributing to injury of the bird (such as bruising, cuts, and fractures)

Choosing bands which are appropriately sized, applying the band(s) correctly, and keeping your birds in good health will help to minimize these risks.

When I discovered that these tiny bands worked great as legbands several yrs ago, I decided to share with other Poultry breeders...I labeled the sizes according to inner diameter measurement. Although my bands are sized very similar to the U.S. Industry standard, they may not be the exact same size as other types of legbands.... look at measurements, and / or examples of sizes of birds they should fit when purchasing any legbands for proper size. I have many years of experience with these legbands, which I feel are a much safer & easier alternative to the spirals and other hard plastic bands that are hard to put on and take off in these small sizes.
