Fashion photographer Parkinson here presents a merry hodge-podge of camera shots all aimed at women. "Intelligent eroticism," says he. From the pages of Vogue, Town & Country, etc., and the artist's own picture file, this handsome volume of smashing if overblown design and pixy-minded text offers as its climactic bouquet mischievous portraits of the author's personal dream girls (E. Taylor, E. Lauder et al.): 17 in all. En route, there are assorted ballet turns, nude/clad contradictions, closeups, full-length abandon, world-class name models in various states of agitation, and recurring fashion-type poses fixe by the same young model in titillating nudity who seems to be angry about something. A heavy romp and lots of fun for sophisticated, non-feminist devotees of visual explosion in photography.

terryoneillofficial   Today we are celebrating the birthday of photographer Norman Parkinson who was born in London on the 21st of April, 1913.⁣ ⁣ Norman Parkinson started his exciting photographic career aged 18 in the early 1930s as an apprentice to the Royal photographer Richard Speaight at London’s Bond Street. ⁣ ⁣ In 1934, he opened his first studio at No. 1 Dover Street in Mayfair and began taking glamorous studio portraits of film stars and society celebrities. These swiftly gained recognition and were published in top 1930s magazines including The Sketch, The Tatler and The Bystander. ⁣ ⁣ From 1935, Parkinson began a contract with Harper’s Bazaar, which pioneered his action-style fashion photography. During wartime England he photographed 1940s fashion nearby his farm for British Vogue. ⁣ ⁣ Parkinson enjoyed many years of collaboration with them and subsequently American Vogue, capturing stunning images of Audrey Hepburn, Jean Seberg and many other major international stars. ⁣ ⁣ From 1960, Parkinson left Vogue and became associate editor at the quirky Queen magazine until 1964, shooting iconic models such as Celia Hammond, Jean Shrimpton and Jill Kennington. ⁣ ⁣ He resumed working for British Vogue in the mid 1960s, photographing Twiggy at the rise of her fame in 1966 and flying to exotic locations for Diana Vreeland’s American Vogue fashion editorials. ⁣ ⁣ Parkinson first photographed the British Royal family in 1967. ⁣ ⁣ The 1970s saw Parkinson travel to Jamaica, the Seychelles and Barbados, and in the 1980s he worked for Town and Country magazine, as well as continuing his work for the Royal family. ⁣ ⁣ Parkinson was given his first major retrospective exhibition at London’s National Portrait Gallery in 1981. ⁣ ⁣ He died in February 1990 aged 76 whilst on a fashion shoot in Malaysia. ⁣ ⁣ It was rare that a fashion photographer worked for so many decades with such momentum!⁣
