It is a kind of primitive hand axe. Homo heidelbergensis is the species name now given to a range of specimens from at least 800,000 years ago. Survived until about 200,000 to 250,000 years ago The species name was originally proposed for the fossil mandible discovered by gravel pit workers in 1907 at Mauer, a town near Heidelberg, Germany. This find consisted of a lower jaw with a receding chin and all its teeth. The jaw is extremely large and robust, like that of Homo erectus, but the teeth are at the small end of the erectus range. It is often classified as Homo heidelbergensis, but has also sometimes been considered to be a European Homo erectus. Although early Homo specimens are now known from a number of African, Asian and European Middle Pleistocene sites, the taxon Homo heidelbergensis was initially introduced for the Mauer jaw from 1907. Fossil hominids from the earlier Middle Pleistocene of Europe are very rare and the Mauer mandible is generally accepted as one of the most ancient, estimated age is between 400,000 and 800,000 years. The Homo Erectus Heidelbergensis is the ancestor of the Homo Neanderthalensis, the Neanderthal Man. Provenance is an old German collection with finds from Western France. More details will follow the artefact. I guarantee absolutely for the authenticity of this wonderful Middle European artifact.
