Seller: pennantique (3,515) 99%, Location: Scranton, Pennsylvania, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 262736010700 Penn Antique Restoration ~ 6 available ~ Antique "Yale" Art Deco Nickel-plated Brass Door Sets w/Knobs, Plates, Lock, & Key *Although there are 6 sets available, the list price is for 1 set only. If the quantity above falls below 6, then this indicates that 1 or more sets sold. * If you buy 5 sets, we'll include the 6th, closet door set for free! Rare, beautiful, antique, interior door locksets made by, "Yale" of Stamford CT sometime during the first half of the previous century. Each set consists of 2 brass knobs, 2 stamped brass escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock with brass faceplate and 1 working key, and 1 steel spindle with 1 setscrew and 1 securing pin to connect the knobs, and all 6 of the original, brass screws to fasten the parts to the door. All brass parts are solid, brass, not plated steel. Originally, all brass parts were nickel plated, and surprisingly, most of the plating remains! Either the plating is very thick, or these sets were hardly used, because after almost a century of use, the plating should've at least wore off of the knobs. The amount of plating varies from part to part (see "Group photos"). * "Yale" made locks that had bigger spaces between their upper passage latches and lower deadbolt latches than other manufacturers. We have a few strike plates (keeper or receiver plates) that match up just right with the locks, but we would have to modify a few more to ensure that each lock has a matching strike plate. That is why we didn't include one with each set. If you would like a strike plate, you could purchase one from us for $8 each--email us after the auction if you're interested. * Please note that one of the sets has a thumbturn in place of a second knob, and its lock is smaller and doesn't have a keyhole (passage lock). This type of set is designed for a closet door. The knobs and escutcheons have a fantastic, Art Deco style design, which is accentuated by an unusual textured detail. The same textured pattern is also featured on the lock faceplates! The locks are reversible and could accommodate the swing of any door. At the point of salvage, some parts were painted, and all parts were dirty and unevenly tarnished (see photos under "Prior to restoration"). Since then, we've spent hours removing the paint, and cleaning and polishing the parts to the best of our ability. We weren't able to clean some of the verdigris from the recessed areas of the knobs and plates. However, the greenish-blue hues of the patina accentuate the grayish, nickel-plated details. All parts have some, minor cosmetic blemishes including tiny nicks and light scratches, which are typical for nearly 100-year old hardware. Otherwise, all parts are in great condition with no breaks, cracks, chips, or heavy scratches. The locks were opened, inspected, and greased to function more smoothly. We also made a key to operate each lock, and could make more for a charge of $8/key--email us after the auction if you are interested. It's truly a spectacular sight to see all of the doors in a home, or even on the same floor, with matching, decorative hardware. You have a very rare opportunity here. Don't wait too long, before someone else buys some, or takes the whole lot!
