Seller: chblack (5,926) 99.6%, Location: Fairfax, Virginia, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 322325233995 Lot Description:This is a group of 6 better quality uni-facial blades from the Sahara desert (Morocco). These are from the Mesolithic era which places them to be from approximately 8,000 BP at the latest. All were struck off cores and were used as knives one looks to be more of a punch or drill,it has three faces and smaller. The shortest tool is 1 3/4th inches (44 mm) long. The longest tool is 23/4th inches (72 mm). These are nice and were pulled from my 15+ year collection. They were saved form, color, patina, and or unusual lithic. The condition is very good. See pictures for details. Background information is provided with my 2-page essay on the subject, which will be included. Neolithic populations living near now dried lakes and rivers in what is now the Sahara desert; used these tools in the hunt for and processing of waterfowl and small game. The end of the Ice Age resulted in global climate changes which stopped the rains and forced these Neolithic (New Stone Age) peoples into new modes of existence, either agriculture which was just beginning at the end of the Neolithic, or a nomadic animal husbandry mode of existence. The New Stone Age was a very dynamic era giving rise to agriculture, pottery, and permanent settlements, all of which were milestones in humankind's march toward 'civilized' life. The Sahara Neolithic lasted from 9,000 to 4,000 BP (years Before Present). I will include my 2-page essay on the Sahara Neolithic to explain something of the Neolithic era and context in which these tools were found.
