ESTATE FIND ~ Ancient HANIWA Japanese Earthenware Pottery Head ~ 6th-7th Century. Ancient Japanese Haniwa Earthenware Head ~ 6th/7th Century ~ Possibly Authentic? ~ Up for sale is this Amazing Ancient Japanese Terra Cotta Earthenware Haniwa Head. This is an estate find, and although I do not have a local authority to authenticate it's age, it certainly looks and feels the part. According the estate, they had had it for as long as anyone could remember, although no one knew exactly how or when it was acquired. It is heavy, just over three pounds, thick terra cotta construction, and rough texture, most of which differs from reproductions that I have seen. It measures 6 1/2" tall, 6" wide and is 4 3/4" ear to ear. Again, I cannot authenticate that it is an original from the 6th century, or even just a very old reproduction, but it is certainly an amazing piece! It will be securely packaged for safe arrival.
