Originally decorated in polychrome, probably depicting lotus flowers, the remains of which survive.Egyptian alabaster vessels are often forged and seldom appear with as many positive signs of authenticity as this impressive piece. Height: 8 3/4 inchesCondition: A 3-4 inch area of the neck and mouth restored from several fragments, with some infill. Provenance:From the Nikos Paschalis (1918 - 1948) Collection, inherited in 1965 by his sister, Assimina Paschalis, of Melbourne, Australia.Mr Paschalis was the grandson of George Paschalis, the founder of the Paschalion Archaeophylakeion Museum in Samos, Greece in 1912. He spent time in Alexandria, Egypt with the British Army during and after the Second World War, when this piece was likely acquired. A letter by A. Paschalis, dated 19th February 1991, confirming the provenance and a copy of a transfer of title document, dated 16th October 2011, is available to the new owner.
