This is a very unusual item. It is marked with McClasky and Fall patent July 24, 1880 I believe. The research I've done tells me it might be one of a couple things a type of mortise window, locking mechanism. Possibly a privacy lock for a pocket door, possibly a screen door mechanism. It is all steel with a little brass plating on the escutcheon and knob.
When you turn the knob both the lock and catch Turnin see the pictures for details.
It appears to be very rare. I have not been able to find another one like it. A door knob expert suggested to me that It might've been a manufacturer sample left for a retailer.
Cheers!
