Antique Wlaszlovits STOS Czechoslovakia H24 Officer’s Sword & Scabbard 36.5”
For auction is a wonderful old officer’s sword made by Wlaszlovits, a company founded in 1803 in East Slovakia. The sword’s overall length, including the handle, is 36.5 inches (92.7cm). The blade alone is 31 inches. It bears the Wlaszlovits mark on one side and H24 on the other. The wire-wound sharkskin grip is firm and all the wires are intact as is the gold bullion knot (tassel). The guard features a lovely etched floral design and a Lion Salient.
The blade, guard, and grip are in very good condition with only minor signs of wear. There’s a small spot of fraying on the plaited backstrap (see photos) and that part of the backstrap is a bit loose. The scabbard has some scrapes and scuffs, as you would expect. I haven’t attempted to polish any of the metal.
