.925 Silver "JUST-DUG" Charleston Slave Hire Badge / Tag Civil War Relic Pendant

This listing is for a very unique, hand-made pendant, designed for Civil War relic hunters, metal detecting enthusiasts and history buffs in-general. My name is Leonard Short and I have combined my two careers of goldsmith/jewelry designer and artifact restoration to create a line of metal detecting jewelry. The artifact displayed in this pendant is modeled from an actual Charleston, South Carolina Slave hire badge from the dark period of the American slave trade in the nineteenth century. This particular line of pendants illustrating artifacts just as they are excavated from the ground was quite a while in the design stage and is titled: "JUST-DUG". With this variety of "Just-Dug", I wanted to develop a design that would appeal to relic hunters and historians that have recognized the unique rarity and historical importance of the Charleston slave hire badges. Illustrated in this design is an 1811 slave hire badge with "SERVANT" occupation and a serial number of "32", still in the relic hunter's dig hole with the digging tool still in place! The date of 1811 is the only year in the entire history of Charleston Slave hire badges where the corners were not only clipped, but actually "scalloped" with concave indentions. This copyrighted design was carefully laid out to display a vision that most relic hunters dream of seeing in their dig hole, while having an artistic balance with the angles of the artifact and digging tool. The pendant measures 58mm in height (2 1/4 inch) and has a brushed finish with black patina in the recesses to strongly display details. The bail is uniquely crafted with long-term wear in mind. It has an opening that measures 3mm x 6mm in order to accommodate a very substantial chain. In addition, the bail has my signature, hinge mechanism.
