Rare, antique, exterior door lockset made by, "Sargent & Co." of New Haven, CT sometime around the turn of the previous century. It consists of 2 steel pulls (2 large, stamped back plates, 2 thumb latches, & 2 cast handles), 1 iron mortise lock, 1 steel strike plate for the door jamb, and 4 nuts and 12 screws to secure the parts to the door. Originally, the parts were brass plated, however, most of the plating wore off over the years leaving the parts with a nice distressed look. Many times, sets like this are used only to keep a door closed and to look pretty, so we didn't make a key for the lock. However, if you also need the set for security, we might be able to make a key. If we are able to make a key, the first key would cost $10 - $20, and each additional key would cost $10--email us after the auction if you are interested. We removed the set from the front door of an old store in Northwestern Massachusetts (see last 3 photos). At the point of salvage, some parts were painted, and all parts were dirty and rusty. Since then, we've carefully cleaned all parts to the best of our ability, trying to preserve as much of the plating as possible. All parts have some pitting (corrosion), which is mostly surface deep and only serves to augment the distressed beauty of the parts. They are still strong and ready to serve another lifetime. Things made back in the day were made to last forever, and these pieces are no exception! Considering that the set is over 100 years old, it's in excellent condition! It has the typical nicks and scratches that you would expect to find on an old, used, lockset but no breaks, cracks, chips, dents, or deep scratches. The lock was opened, inspected, and all internal parts were greased to operate more smoothly.
