VIDEO REVIEW

(By Dave Cormack)

Are you tired of paying the exorbitant prices charged now days to get an oil change at tune up on your Beetle, Bus, or 'Back? Or is your car making horrible expensive noises every time you either push in or let out the clutch? Hey, wouldn't it be have to have your own personal VW mechanic on duty 24 hours a day?

Well, now you can have that luxury. Bug Me Video, of Fort Myers, Fla., has brought out two new videos that show you how to change the oil and do a tune up on your car, and also how to pull our engine and replace the clutch disk and pressure plate. The star of the show, Rick Higgins, is a Volkswagen mechanic with 36 years of experience, and he will guide you step-by-step through the routine maintenance of your air-cooler, as well as showing the easiest way to install a new clutch in your ride. This is a well thought out video, and Rick guides you through the work with ease.

In Volume 1 of the video set, Rick takes you through the oil change and tune-up process, covering all the bases regarding the different distributors used in our favorite cars. He points out also what all those notches on the crankshaft pulley are for. Pay particular attention to this part, because you could have a pulley that isn't the original for your engine, and that alone will throw the timing way off, which is a critical part of making your making your Volkswagen stay alive.

He also covers the valve adjustment process, which is another integral part of keeping that old 1600 (or 36 horse, 40 horse, 1838, or whatever), happy. In Volume 2 Rick gets into the nitty-gritty of keeping your ride alive, by pulling the engine and replacing the clutch disk, pressure plate, throughout bearing and main seal. These videos are designed to guide you step-by-step through an often confusing process, and Rick makes it easy to understand what you are doing, how you are doing it, and why. They money you spend on these videos will come back to you by your second tune-up and oil change, or your first clutch job.

These videos are useful not only for the novice VW mechanic, but guys well versed in VW speak as will. The first thing you should do when you purchase the videos is to put your name on it, because I guarantee you that all of your buddies will want to borrow them and won't want to give them back. Future BugMe plans call for a comprehensive video on how to rebuild that tired old leaky engine, too. (This video is now done and ready for shipment!) If the following videos are as good as the first two, they are sure to be best sellers. Even if you are an accomplished VW mechanic, a little refresher course in the basics never hurts!

These are just a few of the letters from people who are getting in on the fun of working on their own beloved Volkswagen!

Dear Rick,

I ordered your Vol. 1 Bug Me Video recently. I was a little hesitant when I ordered it and therefore decided to only order the 1st. volume to check it out. My primary concern was in respect to what the quality of the video would be. Well it arrived this morning and I have just finished watching it. WOW!!! It exceeded my expectations! The information was excellent and easy to understand. Especially the way you walk us through each step. And my initial concern about the quality of the filming was laid to rest. The video was clear, lighting was perfect and the pictures were sharp and in focus. I am so pleased with the quality of the video, depth of information and how you present it that I just wanted to take a minute to write and say excellent job and thanks. I plan to order Volume 2 and any and all future volumes. Keep them coming. The motivation to buy this type of video is simple. I can afford to hire someone to do this work on my Bugs (59 & 63) but then I miss out on the enjoyment and pleasure that one gets from knowing you did it yourself. Working on the car ourselves is an important part of the enjoyment for us auto enthusiasts. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Greg D

Absolutely LOVED the first two videos. Can't wait for the rest.

Would like more information on the Automatic Stickshift stuff.

Maybe a separate video, maybe just incorporated more in the others.

Regardless, the videos were great.

Your innovation with these videos should be applauded. For those of

us who are not VW "literate" these videos would be a welcome addition to our

"tool boxes".

Andy

A Navy "well done" for your volume 2 video; --I am definitely interested in #3:

Lance

There are very few things in life that exceed my expectations to the good, But guys I just received my video and it is excellent. I can hardly wait to get to work on the old dubber. Please put me on your list for any other videos that you have available.

I think that the one I just received is very well done and look forward to getting more.

I think the video series is awesome. I'm glad finally someone thought

about it!!!

I can't believe it only took one day to get my video. Rick did a great

job. Although my 66 bug is running great and I don't see me tearing down

the engine soon, I feel that the video covered everything in a manner

that I can easily follow.

I only have one question! How many clean shirts did Rick change into

during the filming??? I can't believe he tore down and rebuilt a engine

without getting that shirt dirty. My wife would like a video on that

alone!

Thanks again! Great video and Great service.

Dave R
