Small ferns. (Mother shield Ferns)
This listing is for 10 little ferns and some nice sheet moss.
These ferns will come wrapped in some lovely sheet moss.
You can poke the ferns into this moss and keep them moist
by spraying and you will have roots and new fronds in a matter
of weeks. You can speed it up by covering them with a plastic
bag to keep the moisture up.
These little ferns have no roots. They are alive and ready to grow.
Plants can be easily propagated from bulbils, ( bulbils are the baby ferns which grow on the end of
the large adult fronds.. Fronds with bulbils can be pinned to the ground in the
garden and allowed to take root, or the bulbils can be removed from the fern by cutting the frond into
segments. The base of these bulbils (still attached to a piece of frond) can then be dipped in rooting
powder or gel, placed in moist sand in a punnet or tray and kept moist until roots have formed, when
they can be potted on or planted out. I have found that rooting powder is not necessary. These grow
roots quickly within a matter of days.
*These ferns can be place straight into your terrarium. You simply need to make sure their little
brown bottoms are sitting on soil. They will mostly come on little stem from the mother plant.
You can place a small stone or bit of moss on top to hold them down.
Very Very easy to grow.
These would look great in any terrarium or frog/ reptile enclosure.
If you have a very shady spot in your garden it would also do fine there but they
grow more slowly when they are young and are probably best for
terrarium or vivarium.

Care of your moss.
Water
Over watering is the most common problem with terrariums, but on the flip side they are living and therefore require enough water. We offer a general indication of the water requirements for each terrarium but this must be used as a guide only to take into account seasonal changes and depending on where the terrarium sits in your space, it may need more or less water.
For open terrariums , as long as no water is pooling at the bottom of the container then your terrarium is either doing fine or needs some water. Very quickly the leaves of your plants will droop if they are not receiving enough water. If the soil is dry, add some water. Use a water spray bottle to mist the moss and plants. Keep your open terrarium away from drafts as this will dry the plants and they will require much more misting.
For enclosed terrariums , you don't need to add water very often (approximately fortnightly to monthly). As a general rule, if you can see condensation in your enclosed terrarium on a warm day, there is no need to add more water. The terrariums with a larger plant might require more water than the fully enclosed terrariums. It is important that the moss and top layer of soil remains damp at all time.
Don't allow lots of water to sit at the bottom of the terrarium for extended periods of time as this may cause plant roots to rot. R emove the lid and place in a brighter area for a few hours or days..
Only ever use de - mineralised water or rainwater as tap water contains salts that can build up inside the terrarium causing damage to your plants.
After watering, allow the leaves of the plants to dry before replacing the lid.
Light
Keep your terrarium in a spot that gets plenty of indirect light, but will not be subject to direct sunlight.
Placing them in direct sunlight can kill plants quickly.
If your terrarium is in a spot that receives little natural light, artificial light can be used.
Plants tend to grow toward the light source. To keep plants growing upright, turn your terrarium occasionally.
Fertiliser
Fertilizing your moss is not necessary. They will get all they require from the soil and water.
