Rare complete crinoid Pentacrinites fossil Charmouth Lyme Regis UK Jurassic rock.
The fossil measures 105 mm (4.1 inches) across, which is a good size for this fossil type. The fossil consists of a complete crinoid with a full stem with attachment cirri in position and a complete head with a crown of arms and pinnules, all preserved with great detail. It is preserved in calcite with no pyrite and has been backed with a rock-coloured plaster to provide support. It has been coated in a thin reversible (soluble) lacquer for protection. These crinoid heads are rare and not often offered for sale and this is an incredibly fine example. Complete crinoids are very hard to find on the Jurassic Coast, and are rarely offered for sale.

This auction is for a stunning example of a crinoid fossil of the species Pentacrinites fossilis from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK.
The fossil measures 105 mm (4.1 inches) across, which is a good size for this fossil type. The fossil consists of a complete crinoid with a full stem with attachment cirri in position and a complete head with a crown of arms and pinnules, all preserved with great detail. It is preserved in calcite with no pyrite and has been backed with a rock-coloured plaster to provide support. It has been coated in a thin reversible (soluble) lacquer for protection. These crinoid heads are rare and not often offered for sale and this is an incredibly fine example. Complete crinoids are very hard to find on the Jurassic Coast, and are rarely offered for sale. Around 196 million years old (Sinemurian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
