It is decorated in the typical colours of Gnathian pottery; added white yellow and red pigments. We also find a very elegant and high arching handle with two small lions masks in relief acting as struts. Height: 7.25 inches. In excellent condition said for a small repair on the handle. Vases painted using this technique are called Gnathia Ware. A number of vases with this type of decoration appeared around the middle of the 4th century B.C. in the southern Italian region of Italy. The name Gnathia originates from the site of Ignazia or Egnazia where the style may have originated. The style is characterized by black-glazed surfaces with polychrome decoration in red, white and yellow. Cf. Green, J. R., "Some Gnathia Pottery in the J. Paul Getty Museum", Greek Vases in the J.
