Seller: allfungirliestuff (3) 100%, Location: Delray Beach, Florida, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 282270137327 Carved wooden wall mural, screen, or fragment of liturgical or even domestic furniture . Purchased from an antique dealer in United States who obtained the object in Belgium. Height – 23 inches. Width – 60 inches. Thickness of carving – 2 ½ inches. Below are opinions received from antique specialists: RE: Two flat vacant spaces in carving. Carving appears to have two empty flat spaces at the left and right side of mural. One opinion is that the carving is in line with a European tradition to put dates and individual's initials on furniture and over door lintols. May signify the marriage or birth of a child, particularly an heir. RE: Dating of object. Opinions from museum and antiquity experts vary. One says that it may be early 16th or 17th century. Another feels it may be an early 19th century creation. RE: Description of object. Object is likely not a memorial. May be a carving of St. John over his symbol of the eagle. Appears to have had a framing of newer wood placed around an older carved fragment. RE: Origin of object. A north European provenance seems plausible, likely German rather than English
