Seller: renman1896 (967) 90.9%, Location: Athol, Massachusetts, Ships to: US, Europe, CA, JP, AU, Item: 251577913587 A rare huge terracotta Graeco-Phoenician statue of Tanit, ca. 600 BC, found in the sea off the coast of Haifa, Israel. The statue, the lower section reassembled from fragments, partially covered with marine encrustation from its' time in the sea. Likely from an ancient shipwreck, she stands with her right hand raised in supplication? her left arm bent at the elbow the hand holding an unknown object. The curly exposed hair is typically Greek, along with the Romanized facial features. The Phoenicians who traded extensively with the Greeks transmitted much of their culture to them for absorption. 11-1/2" (29.2cm) tall, 4-1/8" (10.5cm) at the widest, and 2-3/4" (7cm) front to back. Mounted and labeled on an antiqued polished wood plinth, the overall height is 12-1/8" (30.8cm). I will furnish a photocopy (laminated in clear plastic) of a very similar attributed statue of Tanit, for complete, permanent dating and culture documentation. A beautiful display piece, no doubt as to its' antiquity, for the serious collector. Also come with my lifetime Certificate of Authenticity and Guarantee, bid with confidence you will not be disappointed. PS. Be sure to examine my other offerings, thanks.
