Up for sale, a 2010 Epiphone USA John Lennon 70th Anniversary Limited Edition 1965 Casino in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, COA, hangtags, and accessories. Not to be confused with the also highly sought after 1965 John Lennon Casino run by Epiphone USA, this model was limited to just 70 guitars (35 Sunburst, 35 Natural), commemorating what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday. This exceedingly rare model was only offered to the Japanese domestic market. Both the label in the body and the COA are hand-signed by Yoko Ono, and the 12th fret is inlaid with Lennon's birthday, setting this model apart. To create this faithful iteration of Lennon's Casino, Gibson had access to Lennon's original 1965 Casino, with body measurements and photographs taken and tracings performed to ensure all details were accurately represented. Premium features include a satin nitro lacquer Natural finish, Gibson USA electronics and nickel-plated hardware. The fully hollow five-ply maple/birch body construction with spruce bracing is true to mid-1960s Gibson/Epiphone Kalamazoo, MI factory tooling specs. The body is paired with a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a bound rosewood fingerboard, meeting the body at the 16th fret. The instrument is featherweight at 6lbs 4oz, and the lively, dynamic acoustic qualities of the guitar translate faithfully via the Gibson USA P-90 pickup pair, offering glassy cleans, rich midrange bark, and thick overdriven sizzle. We've had this John Lennon Casino professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action and accurate intonation. The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .855" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. On the bound rosewood fretboard, the medium jumbo fretwire is flawless, and the guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nylon nut measures 1.650" in width (correct for 1965 spec, and a middle ground for Gibson nut widths in the era). On the headstock, the gold Grover Rotomatic tuners function smoothly, replicating the tuner set Lennon would install on his guitar around the same time he stripped the finish. At one time the tuners on this Casino were swapped for Klusons, with single cleanly-doweled mounting holes above each Grover on the back of the headstock. The small "Assembled in USA" sticker is still intact on the headstock as well. The electronics function flawlessly, with the dogear P-90 pair governed by dedicated pairs of Volume and Tone knobs as well as a three-way pickup selector switch. Hardware includes an ABR-1 bridge with vintage-spec nylon saddles and a trapeze tailpiece. The nickel plating on the hardware shows just a touch of surface patina, and all original plastics are intact and near-mint including tiny details like the forward pickguard mounting screw spacer and small pickup selector switch surround. The guitar even comes with an extra black bonnet knob (and placement diagram) to faithfully represent the single knob Lennon would change on his Casino. Visible through the F hole is the vintage-style serialized blue Epiphone label as well as the additional John Lennon label noting the limited edition "7 of 70" number, hand-signed by Yoko Ono. The satin Natural nitro lacquer finish has barely a scratch on it, and the satin neck profile finish is equally clean. The original brown Lifton-style hardshell case with Lennon graphic on the lid is included, and the case is exceptionally clean save for some wear on the leather handle and oxidation of the metal frame beneath the leather. The COA is included, also hand-signed by Yoko Ono (it's worth stressing that yes, these COAs were hand-signed and the signature is not printed). All factory paperwork and accessories are included.
