Description: Khmer bronze four-arm Deity figure, probably that of Vishnu, cast during the Angkorian period in traditional 'Bayon' style; a well modeled example nicely detailed with a wonderfully aged patina, measuring 7.0 inches (17.78cm) without the removable museum mount. xxxx Standing in Samabhanga with feet firmly planted on a small square plinth, holding attributes in each of his four hands. The two hands before him hold a gourd, and savory ball of rice flower, while his raised hands hold the noose and conch shell.xxxx Unclothed above the waist he wears a short sampot, secured by a cord. His indigenous face is serene with smiling expression, almond -shaped eyes, ridged eyebrows, broad nose, and unadorned pendulous earlobes. The head is covered by a conical hat, enclosed by an inter-connected diadem crown, tied at the back, with vertical striated hair woven down to the nap of the neck. He is further adorned by armlets and anklet bands.xxxx Lost wax cast, with a superb naturally aged dark chocolate brown patina, revealing a mixture of surface encrustations, malachite, cuprite, azurite, calcite, and manganese, from ground water leeching in the soil, along with embedded soil deposits from the enviornment in which it was maintained. The piece is in excellent condition, unaltered in any way, originally discovered in the Surin prvvince of north eastern present day Thailand, once the central region of the Khmer Empire.
