The drill hole is at the very center of the bead, drilled front to back and is approximately 1.6mm in size.  This is a very nice piece of sugilite and the pendant is be a bit darker in person then shown in the pictures. You will receive the exact pendant bead shown. 12grams *coin used for size comparison is 18mm ~History of sugilite beads A Japanese geologist discovered the first specimens of sugilite in the mid 20th century in Japan. Named after him, another deposit was soon found in India, but neither were gem grade. Sugilite of gemstone quality was not found until 1975 in South Africa. The difficulty in mining this gemstone has driven up a price that began high anyway because of the rareness of the gem. Sugilite beads are among the most expensive gemstones used in jewelry making, not including precious stones. Please note: I make every effort to capture the beads true appearance.
