NORTHERN RHODESIA RARE POSTMARK KAWAMBAWA MAIL RUNNERS GEORGE FIFTH COVERS
Pair of commercial covers 1927 and 1930 from the remote Post Office at Kawambwa. Kawambwa, then Kalunguisi, opened in May 1908, the office being renamed on 1 January 1913. A remote office with 15 mailmen employed in gangs of five men carrying mails between Kawambwa and Fort Rosebery. The 1927 cover is postmarked Kawambwa 15 July 1927 and Ndola 13 July 1927. The mail was carried by runner until 1938 when the mailmen were replaced by lorries.
