Some tremendous North Carolina history from a Hoke Bullard Sr Scrapbook. Much of the material is glued or taped to the actual scrapbook pages. Several items may have tears.

4b- in 1925 letter from the Winston-Salem community chest, which is a coordinated agency for the collection and distribution of the charitable philanthropic and welfare contributions to the citizens of Winston Salem North Carolina. The letter is signed by George Orr, and Arthur port, chairman and vice chairman. There are two newspaper articles, one about the Kiwanis clinic another about 35,000 blankets to be bailed all around the world from the Chatham plant. Last Sunday affixed to the envelope is another red George Washington 2 cent stamp.

What is last but not least is the death notice and obituary of Mr. HoKe Vogler Bullard, Sr. who died in 1981. It reads… of 2123 Selwyn Ave. died Wednesday, December 30, 1981 in Presbyterian Hospital. He was born February 24, 1895 in Winston Salem North Carolina son of a late Jonathan Wesley and Martha Ophelia Stiers Bullard. He was educated in Winston Salem schools in Oak Ridge Institute in business. He was a veteran of World War I. He served as manager of Chatham, blanket manufacturing company, Elkin, and Winston Salem From 1918 to 1929. From 1929 to 1939 he was associated with Adams Millis hosiery manufacturing company of High Point. He came to Charlotte in 1939 to manage liquidation of first national bank building to the liberty life company. He served in the office of production management in the war production board from 1940 to 1945. Mr. Bullard was then associated with the federal reserve bank and the Carolina Virginia mortgage company from which he retired in 1960. He was a charter member of the Kiwanis club of Winston Salem, a 32nd degree, mason, a member of the Knights, Templar, a Shriner of the oasis, temple, and a member of Myers Park, United Methodist Church. And all services will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, December 31 in the Myers Park United Methodist Church with the ministers, Dr. Thomas P Stockton, the Reverend George Needham, and the Reverend Gilbraith Adams, officiating interment will be an evergreen cemetery. He is survived by his wife, May 2 sons Hoch, and John , a daughter, Betty, etc.

I also believe I earlier mentioned that his son, Dr. John Bullard, of Wofford College was actually his brother, who passed away earlier in 2023, after serving Wofford college for over 40 years. His son Hoke Junior serve the Wilson North Carolina community as a physician for over 50 years. The scrapbook came from his estate. I will also have Hoke Junior‘s impressive scrapbook available on eBay.
