This seller has been a conscientious collector and dedicated scholar of New World antiquities for over a half-century. He has complied with UNESCO, federal/local legislation and never consciously acquired, traded in or sold illicitly recovered antiquities. Caveat Emptor! Often convincing in appearance, fake “pre-Columbian” figures are among the most commonly offered “artifacts” listed at unrealistically-low cost to inexperienced buyers. A copy is worthless at any price, and unlike an authentic antiquity, will never appreciate in fiscal value. The astute buyer is therefore advised to rely on reputable specialists in this highly specialized field and be prepared to pay a legitimate price for guaranteed authentic artifacts with legal provenance rather than “bargain” prices for fakes, forgeries, reproductions or illegal material offered by uninformed or venal vendors.
