Build your own Rock Saw
A complete set of plans to build a 12" or 14" rock saw .
I have tried to make these plans as simple as possible to follow. The dimensions given are for the saw I made. Some of these will be a little different as some parts will have to be made to fit the enclosure that you make for your saw. If you take awhile and study everything before starting you should have no problems. This saw is easy to build but it is time consuming. A general knowledge of metal working will be an asset. Take your time with this project and you will end up with a high quality saw. If you need anything explained or any help I am only an email away.
You will need a basic set of hand tools, tape measure, wrenches, pliers, hammer's, punches, square, 3/8 NC & NF taps, power drill, drill bits, a step drill, clamps etc. A Dremel rotary tool with various attachments would also be a big help. As well you will also need a welder, angle grinder and a cutoff saw. A hacksaw could be used but a cutoff saw is much easier and usually cuts a lot straighter. Also a drill press would be very handy to have to make sure all the holes are straight. There are some jigs that you will have to make to get some of the assemblies aligned properly
You are purchasing a 8 1/2" x 11" coil bound instruction book.
This set of plans contains:
52 pages of instructions
315 color pictures of the actual construction
27 pages of illustrations.
110 pages in all
You will need to weld some of the pieces. A material list is supplied as well as some of the suppliers of the various parts needed.
These plans use bushings and bearings. There are no moving parts that are steel on steel.
There is not too much difference between a 12" or 14". The saw case is a little longer and higher. You will also need a little more metal.
The approximate cost of the materials is $400.00 ( depending on the price of metal in your area) not including the motor and blade.
