Seller: uniqueantique34 (1,508) 100%, Location: New York, New York, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 272463270909 Pre-Columbian Chupicuaro Rare Mint MALE “Pretty Lady” Figure Ca. 400 BC Absolutely stunning--and exceedingly rare-- museum-quality ancient Mexican clay MALE “pretty lady” figurine, 2.5 inches tall. Exquisitely adorned with finely detailed face, rounded earrings, and elaborate headdress, features that show bright traces of the original white pigment. The feet are marked by black-on-white “pom-poms,” the characteristic fashion detail that invariably was the cultural earmark of a male. The figures hands are crossed over chest and leg. Not only do the piece’s sculptural beauty and absolute mint condition make it a rarity, but even more so does its gender--as Chupicuaro flats are, as a rule-of-thumb, almost always females (and therefore known as “pretty ladies”). Male examples are almost never found. A true gem. Comes with custom stand. Excellent provenance: formerly of the Weisman Collection. Acquired in the 1950s-60s.
