Seller: rodrogrs (768) 100%, Location: New York, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 122239416062 For your consideration is this fascinating and unusual pre-Columbian artifact; a beautifully-proportioned copper bell. This diminutive ideophone was cast in ovoid form, the resonating chamber surmounted by a circular suspension loop. It is 7/8” (23mm) high x .5” (12mm) in diameter and patinated overall with verdigris. Metalworking diffused to West Mexico from South America about 700 A.D., an area containing vast deposits of copper ore. Handmade copper bells were cast via the “lost-wax” process and used as ceremonial paraphernalia, rattles, worn on clothing as jingling attachments or on body adornments including belts, necklaces, arm-bracelets and anklets.
