The item is approximately 3 inches high and is made from carved basalt, (lava rock). It is in very nice condition without cracks or breaks. It was obtained 45 years ago from the Petit Musee on Sherbrooke street in Montreal, Canada. This was from the late owner Max Klein’s private collection. It was in his collection many years before this. The crouching figure is believed to be a Sukia shaman. The name Sukia refers to a Costa Rican medicine man, shaman, or “priest”, who served as a conduit between the spiritual realm of gods, demons, ancestors and every day life. This particular figure in Costa Rica is believed to have been called Rica Sukia. The photographs shown are of the actual item: what you see is what you get.
