VINTAGE (just shy of antique age) CARNIVAL GLASS MARIGOLD BOWL in the DIAMOND PINWHEEL PATTERN.
10 5/8" WIDE x 2 5/8" TALL. MADE BY SOWERBY GLASS CO. IN ENGLAND.
In Good shape, with signs of wear in alignment with age. Bowl looks lovely in person, but upon close inspection I have detailed observations:
There are some light scratches, some flea bites, and wear to the luminous carnival finish - some spots are thinner (like in the base of the bowl) where the color is more transparent. I found two flea bites/tiny chips in the underside of some rim of the bowl, during inspection I had to feel them with my thumbnail to be sure they were tiny chips and not bubbles - as they are very small and hard to tell. There is some cloudiness in some of the ruffle/waves - I’m not sure if this would come off with a gentle cleanser - but I didn’t want to damage the carnival glass finish so I did not attempt on my own. Please see all photos to confirm you are pleased with this piece. It’s lovely - I am just very detailed in my condition details :)
The pinwheel in the base is surrounded by the diamond pattern that is edged by 14 larger diamonds. The pattern is on the outside surface. Very strong vivid iridescence both inside and out. The iridescence is lovely and the diamond pattern makes for a very reflective surface to showcase the colors
The Sowerby Glassworks was established at Gateshead on Tyne in the north east of England in the early 1800s. Internationally famed for their pressed glass output of the late 1800s, Sowerby also produced some remarkable Carnival Glass during the 1920s and early 1930s.
