This highly unusual member of the Wood-sorrel family responds to touch like the common mimosa pudica plant, but has a more exotic, even more a prehistoric appearance. When touching or tapping them, the leaflets neatly fold together in a few seconds. Tapping the leaf once more makes it droop down, often cascading the effect to adjacent leaves. This plant also displays this behavior (albeit slower) when the level of light drops at night. This ability is not restricted to the leaves, the flower stalk has the same ability and also drops at night. This mechanism is probably a means against insects which would otherwise damage the plants.

This delightful plant grows to a height of around 8-10 inches (20-25 cm). We have some 5yr+ old plants that are 14 inches tall (35 cm). It resembles a mini prehistoric tree-fern in that the leaves are arranged in a crown .  It is an very easy plant to cultivate not needing much light. It does well at room temperature and its soil should be kept moist.

It's size as well as its interesting shape, makes it perfect for any terrarium or vivarium. When Biophytum seeds are ready they are shot away from the plant.
Each seed is enveloped by a taut, turgid membrane that builds up a tension as it dries. When the seed capsule matures, the five chambered fruit breaks open to reveal a star-shaped structure containing the seeds in neat rows. As is it dries further, the membrane surrounding the seed splits apart and ejects the brown seeds for considerably distance. Very cool. Make sure to save some of your plants seed if you can when they are produced. The flowers do not have to be cross-polinated, They are self seeding. Each plant will produce seed. When the seedpod is ripe, it will open up into a star-like structure in which you can clearly see the seeds. It opens up in the morning and by the afternoon, all the seeds have sprung, so make sure to collect them in time. We put a small dollar store 2x2 baggy over the open pod in the morning and let the seeds spring from the pod into the little baggy. By around 12-2pm all seeds have sprung into baggy.(Pictures) Easy to collect. This plant also has medical properties.  >>>We are a "Specialty Seed Shop". GROWING INFORMATION:

Place the seeds "on top" of your moist soil mix. "Do not" bury seeds. A ny normal plant potting soil will do. Give seeds plenty of sunlight BUT not in direct sunlight. Florescent grow lights are also very good if you choose.  ( We use Florescent T5 Lights ).  Cover the pot/tray with a plastic wrap with toothpick  holes for air circulation so you don't get mold. Mist seeds lightly. We keep our pots in water trays with 1-2mm water. Keep temps roughly around 73 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (23 to 27 C.). The soil needs to be kept very moist, even wet.  Make sure to lightly mist seeds every week or so.  Seeds will germinate in around 3-12 weeks in proper conditions as posted.  (Average germination starting time has been around 4-8 weeks) . Plant seedlings in individual pots once they grow 2 leaves with 6 leaflets each .

((RECOMMENDED))-(G erminate seeds indoors in a  controlled   environment with  Florescent  or LED Lighting.  (IE.. Terrarium, Fish tank, indoor greenhouse etc.).  Something  that you can get the proper Temp/Humidity to  germinate .) More info on Google about that.  (DO NOT put seeds on a windowsill . That doesn't always work. Temperature and  Humidity fluctuate .)
