La Live de Jully is the son of farmer general Louis Denis Lalive de Bellegarde and Marie-Josèphe Prouveur du Pont1. On June 30, 1741, he married Louise-Élisabeth Chambon, renowned for having more than promiscuous morals. Madame d'Épinay taught us that she pushed the absence of prejudice to the limit where it takes another name. But she still had a son, on June 7, 1750. She died in December 1752, struck down by smallpox. Angel Laurent from La Live de Jully, by Jean Baptiste Greuze, circa 1759, National Gallery of Art, Washington He is known to have carried out political missions in Geneva. On August 1, 1762, he married Marie-Louise Josèphe de Nettine (1742-1808), daughter of the Brussels banker Matthias de Nettine and Barbe Stouppy (en), thus becoming the brother-in-law of Jean-Joseph de Laborde, owner of the Château de Méréville. One of his daughters married Philippe de Montesquiou-Fézensac. In 1765, he inherited the castle of Prunoy from François Christophe de Lalive, receiver of Finances, purchaser in 1721 of this old castle which he then had transformed (large main building, high square symmetrical pavilions and armorial pediment); he caused the plantations to increase and the ponds to dry up. He was the father of Louise Joséphine Angélique Lalive de Jully (1763-1831), who married Rear-Admiral Jean-Baptiste Joseph Hubert de Vintimille-Figanières (1740-1817), and maintained a regular correspondence with the writer Joseph Joubert. Furniture souvenirs In his print entitled Party of Pleasures (coll. part.), which is dedicated to him, the engraver Pierre-Étienne Moitte reproduced the painting that Lalive de Jully had commissioned from Nicolas Lancret (Museum of Fine Arts in Boston): it is an autograph copy of his Jambon Lunch ( 1735, Condé museum in Chantilly) smaller and presenting some variations compared to the original (urn instead of the satyr statue, table of different format, no overturned chair in the foreground). Like its counterpart, the Oyster Luncheon, by Jean-François de Troy (1735), also commissioned by Louis XV in 1734, this painting was inserted in the woodwork of the Pet's dining room.
