J scale refers to the 1:80 16.5mm gauge model railroad standard, often treated in Japan as the same as HO scale, but recently named J scale.

The Tsubame was once Japan's representative limited express train operated by JNR.

The Tsubame was usually operated in 12-car trains.

The paint color of these cars used to be reddish brown, but it was changed to emerald green when the Tokaido Main Line was fully electrified.

They were mainly pulled by The JNR Class EF58.

They were nicknamed "Aodaisho" (meaning "Elaphe climacophora") because of their coloring.
