HEAVY WALL OF HORRORS: A T-Shirt Side Story: First making a pit stop to buy this t-shirt, after the concert we naturally went to Hammerjacks, because back then that's just what you did if you lived here in Baltimore (well, sometimes you'd end up at The Rage, but that's a whole different sort of story) .....

Members of The Cult showed up to party at the legendary club as well. I specifically remember spying current Guns 'n' Roses drummer Matt Sorum, who played for The Cult back then, being hounded for autographs. In the chaos, I noticed the fawning girls fumbling about to find a pen. I had one, so I interjected my pen-holding hand into the scene to offer it up. A short line had formed by then, so I had given up on getting it back and proceeded to focus my attention back on my friends.

A short time later I noticed Sir Sorum turn back towards us, checking to see if there were any other crazed fans looking for him to sign their bev naps. It was explosively loud in the club, so I silently re-extended my arm and held my hand out to signal, please return my pen. Oblivious, he says, "Did you want an autograph?" Hahaha! I was like, "No dude, just my pen." He laughed, handed it back to me, and that was the end of our interaction - and my memory of that evening as I couldn't drink my way out of the hangover I had from the night before. Surely, if we hadn't had tickets to that concert ahead of time, I'd likely have not attended after sharing a full handle of vodka and chilled sloe gin shots (nasty) while with "HMC" (aka Heavy Metal Chick) having been lured to her apartment for free drinks. Much later, I somehow stumbled back downstairs where I had been camping out for weeks on my best friend's floor. With her roommate gone for several weeks, I had passed out across her bed instead that night.

Thinking back on it now, I don't remember much else from the night of The Cult concert, or for a few days after that. (Well, apart from taunting HMC about her goofy wall of posters, specifically Kip Winger, I mean, come on!) It was a week-long hangover that only time could cure. Sometimes it's hard to believe I made it out of those years alive.

Do you have your own story or anecdote about The Cult, the concert, or other crazy '80s antics to share?  Please send yours for consideration to be featured in my upcoming shorts project "Heavy Wall of Horrors" (working title). Contributors and players shall remain nameless unless otherwise famed or disclaimed. If you have images, all the better. Please load them to you favorite cloud space to share the link for inclusion.

Anyhow, back to the t-shirt...
