Sacrifice Remembered: KIA, WIA, Engraved, MOH. Sacrifice Remembered: Posthumous Awards of the Purple Heart Medal in the Second World War is the #1 book showing examples of every military medal and decoration awarded during WW2 as well as their associated documents, telegrams, letters home, and more! The concept for the book is to show that these medals aren't just pieces of metal and cloth, but represent the complete and total sacrifice of so many of our nation in the fight against Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. Over 325 men are represented in the book, and at a minimum, their Purple Heart is shown, and for many, their next of kin notification telegrams, family mail and letters, postcards from prisoner of war camps, their portraits, presidential accolades, certificates, class rings, and more.  The book covers medals awarded to the Army, Army Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and US Public Health Service. For many of these medals, this is the first time they've ever been seen outside the family setting.  Medals photographed include (of course) the Purple Heart, but also include the Medal of Honor from all branches, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross (including the rare "black widow" variation), Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Good Conduct medals from all branches, and even the Silver Lifesaving Medal.  The book tells the stories of these brave men in chronological order by branch. Starting with Pearl Harbor, the book includes battles in such places at Attu, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Italy, North Africa, France, Germany, Belgium, and for many - the casualties lost at sea. Every major action is covered, including the invasion of North Africa, Murmansk Run, D-Day in Normandy, airborne and paratrooper actions on D-Day, Market Garden, Operation Varsity, Battle of the Bulge, etc.  Additional chapters discuss the loss of men while confined in POW camps, and as the result of atrocities, such as the Malmedy Massacre during the Battle of the Bulge and the fall of Bataan and the resulting death march in the Philippines. There's also a chapter about the men who died but did not earn a Purple Heart, sacrificing themselves to save the lives of their fellow countrymen.  Appendices include information about researching the Purple Heart (and other awards), the 1973 Fire at the National Personnel Records Center, and a list of over 14,000 traceable Purple Heart numbers.  Finally, one of the most frequently used appendices show examples of all service branch Purple Heart engraving styles during the war. These can be used to identify not only real awards and when they were given to the families, but also (sadly) fake awards as well.  The book itself is 593 pages, full color (where applicable) with over 1,300 photos. It is hard cover with embossed dust jacket and the pages are 105 pound glossy: the best quality available. This is not a cheap print on demand book, but a solid, high-quality book to serve as a fitting memorial to the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for their nation. No shortcuts were taken in the development and publication of the book, so it will last for many years of use and reading. The book's ISBN-10 is 0979284910. I am the author of the book, and am happy to autograph the book on request.  These books were printed in a limited run and have sold out in most locations. Amazon had the last remaining stock of the books, which I requisitioned to sell myself. Once the books are sold out, they will be unavailable and will not be printed again.  The book will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail within the US. International shipping will be handled via eBay's Global Shipping Program, which normally has far better shipping rates than direct postal rates.  Thank you for reading and it was an honor for me to write this book about those who gave their lives for freedom.
