Part of a collection of autographed photos of German Knight's Cross recipients (similar to the US Medal of Honor) as shown in the last p icture, attributed to Donald McClure who was a  Lieutenant colonel, United States Air Force and a Nuremberg war crime trials official.  Mr. McClure was noted for his "Donald McClure Papers", which included " Correspondence, memoranda, and trial transcripts, relating to "The Long March" of the 1st Division, U.S. Infantry, into German occupied areas following World War I; German military operations in the West during World War II; and German war crime trials, especially the Buchenwald Concentration Camp case, 1947-1948." Joseph Wilhelm Rettemeier (born September 17, 1914 in Niederdollendorf , † December 19, 1997 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German officer in the Wehrmacht and in the Bundeswehr (last colonel ) and bearer of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. "Rettemeier was in the Second World War company commander in a tank division , which fought mainly in the middle sector of the Eastern Front and in Africa , first as a captain , later as a major. In 1943 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and in 1944 the 425th Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross. After the war he joined the Bundeswehr. He was commander of armored brigades at various locations and most recently the rank of colonel deputy commander of the 2nd Panzer Grenadier Division in Marburg . From 1973 to 1975 Rettemeier was a military adviser in Taiwan.  He was honored with the Distinguished Service Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany first class."
