Description - American, patented Dec. 10th, 1878 by Charles J. Clements of Brooklyn, New York, patent number 210,752. Made of 1/4" wide metal strips, wire springs and chains, 9 1/2" long x 6 1/8" wide x 1" thick, compacts to 2 1/2" wide. "This invention is in the nature of an improvement in spring-beds; and the invention is a spring-bed constructed with jointed guide-bars, whereon the slats of the bed may slide parallel together or apart, and whereby the size of the bed may be contracted for transportation or extended for use." This attractive 19th century patent model is in good overall condition, with its original patent office tag, missing 3 (of 4) small leather straps (straps not shown in patent diagrams)
