1959 Austin Healey Sprite
Relisted. Price dropped! This 1959 Austin Healey “Bugeye” Sprite has been in the family for 10+ years. The time has come to pass it along to a new family who can get out and enjoy it more often than we are able to nowadays. The car is currently insured through Hagerty at a value of $13,000.
Originally acquired with the 975cc motor, we had a professionally rebuilt 1275cc motor installed about 1 year ago, along with electronic ignition distributor and weber carburetor.
This is not a pristine show car. The single stage paint job has some small imperfections here and there, but nothing thats terribly noticeable if you aren’t already looking for it. If you look closely you can see the bonnet was painted separately from the car, there is a slight color variation. Yes, there have been some body repairs made in the last 58 years. But no signs of rust or surface rust to be seen.
This all said, this has been a reliable driver’s car that you can just jump in and drive. The last trip was 140+ miles of backroads and highways in the Alabama heat and it did great. - 1275cc motor has about 1000 miles on it. Professionally built and installed in 2016 with weber carb and electronic distributor. - All chrome on the car is new or professionally refurbished and flawless. - White stripes are vinyl, professionally installed about 1 year ago - Converted to negative ground - LED tail and brake light kit installed from moss motors, very bright! - 4 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly, new clutch with motor rebuild - Brakes function properly and were inspected and repaired when motor was rebuilt - New fuel tank - Original hard top is in tact as is the rear glass. The top does need to be refurbished (see photos). No soft top. I do have the frames for the windows, no glass. - Tires aren't new, but they are in great shape and plenty of tread left
In summary, the major work is complete, there are still some minor tasks that need addressing. Fuel and tachometer gauges currently are not functioning and I have not really had time to explore the wiring any further. The mechanical speedo cable has a habit of breaking under pressure and it needs replacing. Front turn signals/license plate light need wiring. Little things. I’ve lived in a couple different states with this car. Much to my surprise when I arrived in Alabama, this state does not issue a title for vehicles older than 25 years. They do however, provide proof of registration and assured me that this, along with a bill of sale will suffice to allow the car to be given a physical title again if the buyer should be from out of state. I guess a few states do it this way, but Alabama was the first I've encountered. Just an FYI for buyers. Car is sold As Is. There is a youtube video of the car being driven.
