19th C. Qing [Ching] Dynasty Chinese Terracotta Warrior Shi-Lion Roof Tile

Description : We are pleased to offer this 19 th Century, Qing [Ching] Dynasty, Chinese, terracotta, roof tile depicting a mythological, winged warrior riding atop of a Shi-Lion. Popular with top-tier buildings such as palace halls and ceremonial temples, placement of such tiles in differing spots of the roof line assisted in bringing about good fortune, warding off evil spirits, etc. Our tile features a warrior dressed in ancient armor and headdress, with wing-like forms lofting on his back and his weapon raised. The Shi-Lion boasts a stylized mane and tail, as well as incised lines within his face and feet. Glazed in various shades of green, yellow and buff hues, the glossy surfaces of this charming tile are crackled overall. This piece has been mounted to a Plexiglas base, which adds display aesthetics. Please note, this roof tile shows signs of wear commensurate with age, as well as signs of restoration including re-gluing of the Shi-Lion’s rear right leg, front left leg, two tail tips, and bottom, right mane tip. The warrior has also been restored including the re-gluing of his right forearm.

SPECIAL NOTE : This piece is extremely fragile and will require extra care for shipment, including ample bubble wrap and double-boxing. Handling and shipping costs will be higher as a result. Also, we ship via the United States Postal Service. Restrictions on packaging may be imposed depending on your locale.
