The brass tops are permanently on the nail and not removable. The nail driven into the wall AS YOU WOULD A NAIL. It might dent the brass. The brass has some age spots, small dents, and tarnish just as you would expect for old brass. They came f rom a western Connecticut home dating back to the late 1800's. Ideal for authentic restoration and antique effect. Since they are old and used they will add instant age and history.
