NOTE FROM : MAVERICK FORUMS (  Power steering unit upgrade from a 2018 to the high-torque 2019 unit | Can-Am  Forum [link removed by eBay]  ) As some may know, I have been complaining about the sh...y power steering on my X3. As it turns out I am not the only one that was having  issues with the non-smart lock 2018 X3 steering. I spoke to many owners when out in the dunes or desert. Almost every owner of a 2018 non-smart lock model had the exact same complaints as me regarding the steering. The wheel yanked out of there hand and random times, the horrible feed back/fighting with the steering wheel and the power steering getting overloaded/stop working for a split second. It did not matter what wheel off-set or tire size the power steering was horrible.
After my last trip over MLK weekend, where the wheel got yanked out of my hands a few times in the dunes, I had enough. I took my car to the dealer to get the power steering fixed. Before I took it to the dealer I was talking with Rob TMG, a member on here, about doing the swap to the 2019 hi-torque power steering unit. He did the swap and was really happy with the results. He gave me the run down on the part number and what needs to be done to make it work. Prior to taking my car to the dealer I had them verify the swap could be done and they knew what needed to be done to the ECU.

I took my car in a 3 weeks before President's day to get the power steering done. I have an aftermarket warranty that covers steering so I figured I would submit a warranty claim and see what happens. The service person was pretty confident it would be covered under warranty. As it turns out he was correct. I was able to get my warranty to cover the entire thing. I was ready to fight with warranty company and they approved it with no issues.

Of course, getting my car fixed would have been a lot quicker if Bert's Mega Mall actually submitted my warranty contract into the computer system back in December 2017 when I bought my X-3. Took some phones calls and the information was submitted. They input the wrong VIN number and that took another call to get fixed. Once that was squared away Jet World Powersports got the get the claim submitted and the work done.

During this process I learned that my Dynojet tuner would not let the dealer hook up to BUDS. Had to put the stock tune back in for them to access the ECU. Can Am has a program that updates the ECU from the low-torque power steering unit to the high-torque unit, which tells me they have been dealing with a lot of power steering unit swaps. Not sure what else it does to the ECU, but my Dynojet does not show my tunes when I hook it up. I have to contact Dynojet to see what is up with that. If you have a tune on your car I would contact the tuner to make sure nothing will be effected if you do the power steering unit swap.

I picked up my car last Thursday and took off to Glamis to test out the new power steering unit. Not one time in the 140 miles of riding I did the steering wheel get yanked out of my hands. The feed back through the steering wheel was lessened significantly and I never felt like I was fighting to steer the car in the chop or rough stuff. The effort to move the steering wheel was much easier.

My friend that also has a 2018 had his steering lock up on him several times this weekend. I would ask him several times how his steering felt through a section and compare to what I felt. It verified how much better the 2019 steering unit is compared to the 2018 power steering unit. He will be taking his car in soon to get the swap done.

Hopefully soon I can throw my dirt tires on and see how it feels out in the hard pack.

Overall I am very happy with the swap and how the steering works. I am not sure that it is as good as the E-steering set up, but for me it way better than what I had. I like the fact it is OEM and no modification to the steering column is needed.

Hopefully my issue with the Dynojet is a quick fix. I will keep everyone posted. After driving in the dunes with a tune, the stock tune feels so lazy.

Anyone on the fence about the swap, I would say go for it. Especially if you have a warranty that covers steering.
