This great Neolithic flint artifact is a wonderful shaped thick butted B-type ax ( axe ). Belonging to the Younger Funnel Beaker Culture ( Passage Grave Culture ), the TRB II, 3400-2800 bc and the very early Single Grave Culture, 2800-2400 bc. Thick-butted axes with a gently curving cutting-edge, slightly curved or often almost flat sides and flat edges sloping in to a rectangular butt. The sides and cutting-edge are thoroughly polished but the edges show often, with the exception of some of the thin-bladed types, negligible polishing, only at the ends of the cutting-edge, but a very conscientious flat flaking. The type is characteristic of the Passage-Grave Culture being found in settlement sites, however, they are in the minority compared with the heavy thin-butted type, and they come to predominate only in the later finds. Axes of this type are found throughout the Scandinavian Passage Grave Culture´s area and in Central Europe. B-Type axes are thick-butted with polished breadth- and small sides. The upper small side is convex, the underside convex-concave. That shapes the typical "hanging edge". Provenance is an old collection. More details will follow the artifact. I guarantee absolutely for the authenticity of this artifact from the Younger Stone Age. Please view also my other auctions with relics from the European Prehistory. etope-lister
