6 Sahara Neolithic labrets, ear/lip piercing, complete, 2 diff.styles polish

Lot Description:

This is a group of 6 nice Sahara desert found labrets in several styles (rounded and straight end) and all of quartz, there is also a slightly knobbed example. These are thought to have been used   similarly  to today's body piercing of the ears or lips.   They are all complete and unbroken. Hard to find this nice and a part of my long-time collection. this is the last group of these I will offer for a while. My others are still in framed parts of my collection.

The shortest in length is 1 11/8th inch long (28 mm).

Neolithic populations living near now dried lakes and rivers in what is now the Sahara desert. The end of the Ice Age resulted in global climate changes which stopped the rains and forced these Neolithic (New Stone Age) peoples into new modes of existence, either agriculture which was just beginning at the end of the Neolithic, or a nomadic animal husbandry mode of existence. The New Stone Age was a very dynamic era giving rise to agriculture, pottery, and permanent settlements, all of which were milestones in humankind's march toward 'civilized' life. The Sahara Neolithic lasted from 9,000 to 4,000 BP (years Before Present).

I will include my 2-page essay on the Sahara Neolithic to explain something of the Neolithic era and context in which these tools were found.
