Seller: Top-Rated Seller chblack (6,783) 100%, Location: Fairfax, Virginia, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 323242278809 Lot Description:This group of 6 Paleolithic Aterian points and tools, dating to at least 30,000 BC, were found in north-west Africa. The Aterian tools date to approximately 30,000 BC and probably far older. These tools types were the first known stemmed tool type. Most have been worked down in size, with working edge around the tip; others look to be have an intentional straight perpendicular break. All four of the stemmed tools have a bulb of percussion produced at the first strike off the core; it is right at the stem (tang). There are also two nice scrapper/butting tools, both are bi-facially worked. These tools are complete as designed and used with minor or no modern damage, they were used for scraping and cutting. Some of these tools form may have started out as a projectile point/spear point and been converted to a different function when they became too small (through re-sharpening) to use as a spear point. They are well sought after; some high-end European site list Aterian points for sale for hundreds of dollars each. Here is a small collection of tools used by our early ancestors. The shortest tool is 1 7/8th inches (48 mm). The longest tool is 2 7/8th inch long (73 mm). Their is a penny in one of the pictures to give further idea of size. It is not part of the auction. The condition is good; see picture for details. These relics are representative of everyday tools, many of these tools were used until they could no longer function well because they were to small to re-sharpen at which point they were discarded others were lost in the hunt.
