This wonderful Neolithic flint artefact is an "Oblong End-of-Blade-Scraper with two convex scraping edges ". Occurs in all Mesolithic and Neolithic cultures of Northern Europe. Scrapers are unifacially retouched tools with a steep, wide-angled edge that is suitable for a number of tasks, including scraping hides (scrapers were used in the preparation of animal skins, to remove meat and muscle residue from the skin, giving a clean inside surface to the hide), planing wood or bone, and cutting like a knife. End-of-blade-scraper: blades which at one end, more rarely at both, and mostly at the end opposite to the percussion bulb, are provided with a scraping edge which may be convex, straight, concave or oblique. The side edges may be blunted, but in most instances not. the cutting edge is often polished by wear. Provenance is an old collection. More informations will follow the artefact.
