Description: A superb seated figure of Vaisravana, one of the four Heavenly Kings who is considered an important figure in Buddhism through Nepal, Tibet, and Sri Lanka. He is the Guardian of the Northern Quadrant of the World, who protects the gods from the Asuras (demi-gods), and occupies the highest position among the four Guardian Kings and specifically protects Shakyamuni's 'Vinaya' Teaching, protecting those who practice 'Shila' or self-discipline. Image Details: The image is exquisitely modeled in traditional Tibetan Nepal style, cast of bronze, unaltered and unrepaired, with intricate detailing of the features, depicting a divinity figure, meditating in a seated position, with the right hand raised in the Karana mudra, the gesture of warding off evil, while the left hand holds the Mongoose, who is the enemy of the Snake. xxxxxx Vaisravana is shown seated on a single level Lotus throne, clothed in a regal garment embellished with jewels, a necklace, a long strand of beads, armlets, bracelets, and complimented with large floral flower earring pendants. His matted ascetric locks has been sculpted into a crimped bulbous headdress, bound by an elaborate floral crown. The figures physical form is well proportioned, exposing his pot belly practically falling over his garment, secured by a decorative jeweled belt tied around his waist, and with a shawl draped over the shoulders which falls to both sides of his torso in swirling plates. His head is beautifully rendered with a highly stylized crown accented with floral plates draped behind his elongated earlobes.
