Seller: sandsoftimedc_com (427) 100%, Location: Washington, District Of Columbia, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 153691119013 Finely carved from hard stone basalt, the scarab features a superbly carved head, eyes, clypeus plate, pro-thorax, wing cases, with double incised line border; the legs at the sides are all anatomical articulated with fine attention to detail. Underneath the legs are folded into a raised outline border that separated the base into two sections. Basalt, a black or greyish-black igneous rock, occurs in a number of localities within Egypt including the Eastern Desert and in Baharia Oasis and Sinai. It was particularly used for heart scarabs and Late Period amulets. Condition: Intact and in excellent condition overall. Dimensions: Length: 5/8 inch (21 mm) Provenance: Kurt Cohn, private collection London, d. ~1985, acquired in the 1950s.
