< DETAIL: A nicely styled Roman-Byzantine Crusades-Era bronze ring with very ornate and elegant features. The ring sports a large integral bezel which bears what was a quite popular “faux gemstone” motif. This consisted of a raised, oval shaped “faux gemstone” intended to give the impression of a center gemstone. The engraved “faux gemstone” is then accented with an engraved perimeter line, which in turn is flanked by an intricate engraved design which from the point where the bezel meets the banks, goes half way around each side of the band. You might note on one side of the band there is a surface crack in the band, likely caused by the pressure the soil exerted in the artifact during the centuries it remained buried. The crack is only in the surface of the metal, the ring band is not broken through, but it is a weak spot.

The intricate engravings in both sides of the band remain sharply incised, and show only modest wear. However whatever may have been engraved in the flat, top surface of the oval bezel has been worn smooth excepting three faint, (more-or-less) horizontal parallel engraved lines. It’s a very elegant and well-crafted ring. The bezel of the ring and the embellished areas of the band flanking the bezel evidence moderate wear, but the very elaborate engravings nonetheless remain for the largest part, intact. All of the metal work exhibits very fine workmanship, and the ring, though worn and possessing a surface crack, remains well-preserved enough to be worn. It is nonetheless undeniably obvious that the ring was worn, and worn frequently during someone’s lifetime many centuries ago.
