Seller: trovegnome (205) 100%, Location: Phoenix, Arizona, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 322158888082 Condition: This antique item has a lot of wear and has traveled far. General wear on leather cover. Some insect damage and staining to pages. Spine is coming unglued from pages., Material: Paper, Provenance: Ownership History Available, Details: From the Collection of David and Julie Wadsworth – USAID Water Project, Mogadishu Somalia, 1969-1971. This is part of the Qur’an called a “Juz” and is the first two parts of the Qur’an. There is a number on the inside of the leather flap that indicates it’s one of a collection of similar books. This antique Qur’an was collected on one of our excursions into the Somali countryside during the time we were there. It is from the 1800s. It has leather cover with a flap that folds over the top. The leather is embossed with Islamic designs. Inside is handwritten in calligraphy in a form of Arabic that has the vowel marks (small markings above the main text) which is seldom used today. The calligraphy is in two colors of ink – black and red – red denotes the name of god. Every so often, there is a note off to the side that the original scribe or others have added. In the very back, there are some handwritten notes from a later time period. Friends who read Arabic tell me that this is someone’s reflections on this part of the Qur’an. In modern Qur’ans, there are often questions for discussion or for private contemplation for each section. The book measures approximately 9” x 7” x 1”. Thanks for looking!
