Description: An exquisite and rare meditating image of a Lao Buddha portrayed in a seated position atop an altar of floral motif, and adorned by a floral and jeweled headdress finial rising above the Buddha's head, showing that Buddha is in touch with a higher consciousness. The altar is intricately decorated in a scrolling foliage design. He sits cross-legged in the 'Virasana' pose, one leg atop the sole of the other foot. The hands in mudra, with the left hand resting palm open on his lap, while the right hand forms the 'Bhumisparsamudra', or Calling the Earth to Witness, gesture, wearing a long sanghati robe in the 'Open Mode' worn diagonally over the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder uncovered, with the end fold draped to his mid-section. His face is serene, indigenous of Lao features, heavy-lidded downcast eyes set beneath arched eyebrows, a prominent nose, wide mouth with an insipid smile, and elongated earlobes stopping short of his shoulders. The head is cover in a symmetrical pattern of small hair curls, surmounted by a tall square-shaped 'Ushnisha', rising to a floral and ornament finial. XXX Cast in the lost wax method, the bronze surface has a naturally aged chocolate brown patina, partially covered in green malachite oxidation.
