Khmer Multi-Armed Seated Ganesha, Sacred Temple Statue. In Indian mythology, Ganesha is the God of the universal popularity among Hindu's and portrayed as an idol with the body of a man and the head of an elephant, having only one tusk. Ganesha's head is symbolic of the wisdom of the elephant and represents man's eternal striving towards intergration with nature. The deity is intricately modeled in traditional Khmer style, depicted seated on a lotus base, with three-arms holding attributes and one in mudra, the upper right hand holds the Trident, and the upper left holds the Pasha (noose). Ganesh's snake is coiled about his torso. He is shown unclothed above the waist, exposing his large pot belly practically falling over his garment, wearing a knee-length Sampot, secured by a plain belt tied around his waist. xxxx Ganesha's well proportioned head is beautifully rendered with a slight tilt, almond shaped eyes, broken tusks, whorled trunk carved in the round sampling a ball of rice flour, and large ears resting on his shoulders.
