It is probably from the late 1800s or early 1900s. It has leather cover with a flap that folds over the top. The leather is embossed with a lovely Islamic design. The number "4" is written on the inside of the flap - possibly denoting that this was the fourth "juz" in a series. From what I've been told, the Qur'an is often broken into sections or "juz". Each section is then studied and reflected upon by the owner - sometimes you can find these reflections written in the margins or end papers of the juz.Inside is handwritten in calligraphy in a form of Arabic that has the vowel marks (small markings above the main text) which is seldom used today. The calligraphy is in two colors of ink – black and red – red denotes the name of god. Every so often, there is a note off to the side that the original scribe or others have added. The book measures approximately 6.25” x 5” x 1”.
